Applications open soon!
We support Jersey researchers across all industries to effect change.
We do this through funding and also by offering mentorship and support.
Jersey has a unique history and geography.
Due to our size we are well placed to act as a incubator for innovative ideas.
We provide funding for the Island’s innovators to educate, develop and test their ideas in a supportive environment.
Locally applicable research is an essential component of our methodology.
As a leading financial centre, the Island has adopted a forward thinking and ESG driven approach.
However Jersey’s history as an innovator can be traced back to neanderthals producing unique flint tools in nearby Brittany, cod fisherman setting out to Newfoundland, and leading the production of hemp rope.
We have an established and active philanthropic community and we provide a platform for Islander’s to donate to innovative projects, and researchers to nurture and grow their ideas in a supported environment.
Through providing funding, mentorship and support to promising research projects.
Through the promotion of our purpose, aims and the applications supported.
We are focused on supporting researchers from all backgrounds and career stages.
All projects funded and supported by us will be published on our website and accessible to all.
Healthcare research helps to provide important information which can be used to directly impact our quality of life. This type of research can ascertain trends in diseases and identify risk factors to health and can be used to impact treatment outcomes, develop public health interventions, assess and improve patterns of care, and manage health care costs.
We are focused on research that develops innovative and applicable innovations, designed to deliver better and patient-centred healthcare in Jersey.
Funding educational research and investing in improving education for islanders will have a wider impact on society and future research.
We recognise that funding educational research across a wide range of areas including adult learning, child development and special needs support will result in significant improvements in education for Jersey.
Social work research aims to assess and mitigate challenges in social work practice or policy. Trialing new ideas, examining the impact of existing policies, and exploring new methods to improve social care all contribute towards improving Jersey’s social care sector.
We are focused on research that in particular supports mental health, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and vulnerable islanders.
The finance sector has been thriving in Jersey for more than six decades. To maintain the island’s position as a leading international financial centre, research and development projects that foster financial innovation, such as blockchain technology, cybersecurity, and sustainable finance are essential.
We help partner with universities and financial institutions to create incubators or accelerators for startups in the finance sector.
The agricultural sector faces significant challenges, from the discovery of new crop diseases to the impact of climate change. Scientific research in this area is essential to address these global challenges and to solve or limit their impacts at a local level.
We are focused on new and improved technologies that will provide tangible benefits to our nutrition, food sufficiency and sustainability on Island.
The global tourism and hospitality sector is increasingly competitive and the digitisation and sustainability of travel is a key area of focus for the industry. Innovation in this area is key to maintaining a vibrant tourism and hospitality sector.
We recognise the importance of funding research that is conducted by local researchers into the physical, economic, social, and cultural aspects of tourism.
The Jersey Fighting Failure (JeFF) research project represents a groundbreaking approach to heart failure care. Jersey was selected as one of only seven British Society of Heart Failure Flagship sites for their prestigious 25in25 initiative.
This comprehensive program operates across four key domains: understanding, treating, detecting, and preventing heart failure on the island. The Jersey Research Foundation is delighted to have provided grants to allow this exciting research to start and benefit Islanders.
Investigators from the Jersey Heart Team examined the use of an artificial intelligence (AI) to accurately predict a patient’s risk of having a fatal heart attack.
The AI service provided by Caristo (www.caristo.com) measures inflammation around a persons heart arteries using cardiac computed tomography.
Jersey was one of the first places in the world to use the novel technology for clinical purposes and thanks to support from the Jersey Research Foundation, the researchers were able to explore the clinical impact of the technology and publish this at national congress.
Our team shares the goal to advance scientific research and innovation in Jersey. They have experience working in industry and the nonprofit sector, providing them with the relevant skills to support and affect meaningful change across sectors.
We are currently undergoing application for charitable status before we can begin funding applications. If you have any questions or would like more information on the process, please contact us.
A complete application package requires several key components, each serving a specific purpose in our evaluation process. The application form (available once applications are open) serves as the foundation of your submission, capturing essential information about your research proposal and team. This document should be completed with attention to detail, as it provides the framework for our initial assessment.
Your project proposal represents the heart of your application, requiring careful articulation of your research question, methodology, and expected outcomes. This document should present a compelling case for your research, demonstrating both its scientific merit and potential impact for Jersey. We encourage applicants to be specific about their research objectives and to clearly explain how their work will contribute to local knowledge and development.
The budget breakdown must provide a comprehensive view of your financial requirements, including detailed costings for each project component. This should include not only direct research costs but also any necessary equipment, materials, or support services. We expect to see clear justification for each major expense, demonstrating careful consideration of resource allocation.
Your timeline should map out key project milestones and deliverables across the duration of your research. This helps us understand your project's structure and assess its feasibility within the proposed timeframe. The timeline should demonstrate realistic planning and include appropriate contingencies.
After an application is submitted the initial review period of 2-3 weeks involves a detailed examination of each proposal by our administrative team and subject matter experts. This phase ensures that applications meet our technical requirements and align with our foundation's objectives. Reviewers assess both the scientific merit and practical feasibility of each proposal, considering factors such as methodology, timeline realism, and resource requirements.
Technical assessment follows for 2 weeks, during which our Council Members and external experts evaluate the scientific rigor and potential impact of each proposal. This stage involves in-depth analysis of research methodologies, data collection plans, and expected outcomes. Proposals may receive specific feedback or requests for clarification during this phase.
The final decision phase takes up to 2 weeks, during which our Council meets to make funding determinations. This period includes careful consideration of reviewer feedback, assessment scores, and alignment with JRF's strategic priorities. All applicants receive detailed feedback, regardless of the outcome.
We are currently undergoing application for charitable status. Until our charitable status is confirmed, we are not processing funding applications but we welcome any prospective researchers or funders to register their interest in the meantime.
Yes, we welcome all applications that can demonstrate your dedication to developing and enhancing Jersey.
Once open for submissions, the application journey typically spans 8-12 weeks, structured to ensure thorough review while maintaining momentum. The initial application preparation phase allows 4-6 weeks for researchers to develop their proposals. During this time, applicants can access our support services to refine their research questions, develop methodologies, and prepare comprehensive budgets. We encourage applicants to use this time to gather preliminary data and establish any necessary partnerships.
Our team has experience working in industry and the nonprofit sector therefore we not only provide funding, but also mentorship and support where appropriate.
Yes, it is important that we share important project milestones publicly to inspire the next research project that will enhance the way islanders live and that support our community.
We are currently undergoing application for charitable status. Once we are formally registered we will be sharing details for how you can donate and support our initiatives.
